The 2026 NCAA Tournament bracket is official and the Bulldogs made the field for the second year in a row. Unfortunately their path is extremely difficult as they earned an 8-seed in the Midwest region.
Their first opponent is 9-seed Saint Louis who presents an immense challenge for Mike White's squad. However, standing in Georgia's way is 1-seed Michigan who will likely be waiting in the second round if Georgia can advance.
SEC cost Georgia a chance at a much easier NCAA Tournament path
At the end of the day Georgia should be glad that they are in the tournament in the first place. However, their path could've been much easier if it wasn't for the horrific officiating that cost Georgia a win in the SEC Tournament on Thursday.
Georgia went one and done in the SEC Tournament this year after a four point loss to Ole Miss. The Bulldogs however had every chance to win that game after storming back from a 20 point deficit, but two blown goaltending calls cost Georgia the win.
Had Georgia won that game they likely would've earned a 7-seed in the NCAA Tournament instead. That means they would've faced a 10-seed in the first round with a potential matchup against a 2-seed in the second round. That may not seem like much of a difference, but the gap between the 1-seeds and the 2-seeds this year is massive. So not only would they have had a better chance to win their first round matchup, a trip to the Sweet 16 would've been much more likely too.
Georgia can't put all the blame on the SEC though. They never should've fallen behind Ole Miss by so many points in the first place. Blaming the SEC officials is much easier than accepeting defeat for their poor play, but at the end of the day the officials did cost them a shot at a 7-seed.
Georgia however has played very well this season and have beaten some really good teams. Michigan also just lost in the Big Ten Tournament his weekend as well, so maybe the Bulldogs can shock the world and make a run to the Sweet 16 if they make some key adjustments this week.
