Every game matters! That could not be more of the case than when it comes to Mike White's Georgia Bulldogs. After losing a Quad 3 game at home to Ole Miss last week, Georgia then picked up its best win of the season over then-No. 17 Arkansas. That Quad 1 win allowed the Dawgs to maintain their No. 21 overall ranking in the AP Top 25 for a second week. It also helped them out with Bracketology.
Joe Lunardi's latest Bracketology update for ESPN has Georgia moving up one seed from a No. 9 to a No. 8 heading into the midweek's slate of action. The Dawgs would be the No. 8 seed taking on No. 9 Wisconsin in the East Region, where they would face top-seeded Duke in the Round of 32, if they were to advance. Georgia has been as high as a No. 7 seed, oscillating between that mark and No. 9.
Where things stand now, Georgia has 13 more regular-season games left to be played before the SEC Tournament commences. Of those 13 remaining conference games, nine fall into Quad 1, three are of the Quad 2 variety, and only one is a Quad 3 game. At 15-3 overall and 3-2 in SEC play, Georgia may only need to go 5-8 the rest of the way to guarantee itself a berth into the tournament at 20-11.
Georgia will be taking on a Quad 1 opponent on the road in the Missouri Tigers late on Tuesday night.
Georgia Bulldogs right the ship after bad Ole Miss loss with Arkansas win
In Lunardi's latest update, Georgia is one of 10 SEC teams to make the tournament, the most of any conference in college basketball. Georgia is behind Vanderbilt (No. 3), Florida (No. 4), Alabama (No. 5), Arkansas (No. 5), and Tennessee (No. 6), tied with Kentucky (No. 8), but ahead ofAuburn (No. 9), Texas A&M (No. 10), and Texas (No. 11) when it comes to tournament seeding. Texas is the last team in, too.
It should be noted that beyond Texas, two more SEC teams are up for tournament discussion on the outside looking in. Missouri and LSU are among the next four out, alog with Stanford and Indiana. In short, getting a road win over Missouri would be tremendous for Georgia's chances of making the tournament, while probably less than ideal for Mizzou. Only four SEC teams are nowhere to be found.
The good news for Georgia is the Bulldogs have already beaten two SEC teams that are slated to make the tournament in Auburn and now Arkansas. The bad news is one of their losses was to one of the teams who is not a part of serious Bracketology conversations in Ole Miss. The three other teams that are up against it in the SEC right now would be Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and South Carolina...
