With his latest win, Georgia basketball coach Mike White matched the highest season win record that has stood for 25 year dating back to Jim Harrick's scandal-ridden legacy from 2001-2002 season is now pushed aside for the magnanimous White.
With the SEC tournament and a likely March Madness bid ahead, White is set to meet or surpass the esteemed Tubby Smith in the Georgia record books for the most wins in a season. Coach White has three 20-win seasons in a row and bringing needed attention to the men's basketball program at Georgia.
Mike White makes Josh Brooks look like a genius
The winning ways of Coach White followed him from Florida when Director of Athletics Josh Brooks hired him in 2022 to replace Tom Crean and his many losing seasons.
White began to change the culture and improve recruiting. Since his hiring four years ago, White has produced a culture of winning and meeting big challenges, like the recent win against powerhouse Alabama. At home. All season he has coached his team to close games against traditional powerhouses, so there appears to be a tipping point coming.
If the Bulldogs can keep their winning ways through the SEC tournament, they place themselves in good position to get a higher bid for the March Madness tournament. Coach White will need to pull on all of his inspirational and motivational talents to get his team past the first round, where most UGA men's basketball dreams have ended.
Can the Bulldogs get into the second round or even the Sweet Sixteen? That is unknown, but very possible, as White led his former school, Florida into the Elite Eight during his tenure there. Here's to hoping that Georgia responds to this new winning mindset. May the loyal Bulldog fans be rewarded with a real tournament contender this season and may their hope be found in the dynamic coaching of Mike White.
