Georgia football has been one of the best programs on the recruiting trail since Kirby Smart became head coach. The Bulldogs may have taken a step back this year as they only signed the No. 6 recruiting class in the country, but overall they have proven to always be a formiddable force.
But according to Dawg Nation that might be changing as Georgia could make what many would believe is a very strange decision.
What if Georgia signs fewer 5-stars… on purpose?

With NIL and the transfer portal changing roster building, the Dawgs may prioritize elite offensive tackles and defensive linemen out of high school — the positions you can’t just portal shop.

Georgia's recruiting tactics might see a major shift
Yes, that is right, Dawg Nation believes that Georgia could purposefully sign less five-star recruits out of high school. And while that may sound crazy, there is some logic behind it.
One reason it would make sense for Georgia to not target as many five-stars is because of how NIL negotiations are typically handled by these players. Schools from across the country make massive offers to these players, and these offers are much higher than Georgia would like to pay. So what's the point in recruiting a player if they're just going to choose the largest offer on signing day?
So instead of using their money on as many five-stars as they can get, Georgia would be wise to use that money by building up the trenches on both sides of the ball. Elite offensive and defensive linemen hardly ever enter the Transfer Portal, so Georgia needs to stock up on those players out of high school. That is the case whether they are a five-star or not.
Georgia then can use the portal to land players at the skill positions. These proven players are the ones that Smart wants to spend Georgia's NIL money on anyways, so that is where Georgia can get aggressive. Just look at Zachariah Branch who came to Georgia from USC and immediately set the record for most receptions in a season.
There is a bit of irony in this suggestion because Georgia just earned a commitment from five-star running back Kemon Spell. But these commitments could become a thing of the past if Dawg Nation is right.
