Georgia football has a big matchup this weekend against Ole Miss. This game has massive implications on the rest of Georgia’s season, especially when it comes to making the SEC Championship game.
The Bulldogs already have one loss in SEC play this year, and a second would make it very challenging for them to just make it to Atlanta this season. So if Georgia wants a chance to defend their SEC Championship title from last season, they need to beat Ole Miss.
However, there are other games in the SEC this week that will impact Georgia’s chances to make the SEC title game as well. And Tennessee’s annual matchup with Alabama is the one that Georgia fans should pay the most attention to because a Volunteers win would help UGA out immensely.
A Tennessee win vs Alabama would do wonders for Georgia’s season
There are still three teams that are above Georgia in the SEC standings. One of those teams is Alabama, who Georgia already lost to this season. This loss to the Crimson Tide means that they trail Alabama by 1.5 games in the conference standings, so if Georgia is going to surpass Alabama in the standings and make it to Atlanta ahead of them, they need Alabama to lose twice.
There are a few games that Alabama could realistically still lose this season, but Saturday’s matchup against Tennessee is potentially the most likely. So it would be great for Georgia if the Volunteers were able to pull off the upset at Alabama this weekend.
This result won’t matter though if Georgia doesn’t beat Ole Miss. A loss would essentially eliminate any chance Georgia has at making the SEC Championship game, so the Bulldogs do need to handle their business first. But assuming Georgia does win, the next best thing that could happen on Saturday would be a win by Tennessee over the Crimson Tide.
