High school football is officially underway in the state of Georgia, and some of UGA’s commits are already off to great starts in their senior season. But no one got off to a better start than Jordan Smith, who ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown in the first game of his senior season.

Georgia DB commit Jordan Smith finds the end zone on first play of season

Is there any better way to start a season than by running the opening kickoff back? That’s the fastest way possible for a team to put up some points in their season, so this is arguably the best start possible for any team.

This also is the best way for Smith to start his season because he likely won’t find the end zone too much this season. Smith is a defensive back who sometimes will play on offense for his high school team, but his main position is in the secondary. So his chances to find the end zone will be very limited this year, so it’s awesome seeing him put some points on the board already this year.

Smith is one of the top commits in Georgia’s 2026 recruiting class. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 57 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 6 safety in the 2026 recruiting class and the No. 7 overall player from the Peach State as well.

It’s not likely that Smith will score a touchdown once he arrives at Georgia next year, but the fact he has this big play ability is really encouraging. And who knows, maybe Smith will be featured as a return man on Georgia’s special teams where he will make a similar play and score a special teams touchdown during his career at Georgia.
