What a way for Georgia to start their SEC season. The Bulldogs looked like they didn't belong on the same field as Tennessee during the first quarter, but Georgia did what they do best and clawed their way back and only trailed by four points at halftime.
Georgia started hot in the second half and looked like they were going to coast to victory, but Tennessee had other plans. The Volunteers did what UGA usually does and dominated the game late in the fourth quarter and had a field goal to win as time was expiring. Thankfully that kicked sailed right which sent the game to overtime.
From there the Bulldogs defense forced a field goal before Georgia won it 44-41 behind transfer running back Josh McCray's game-winning touchdown.
The good and the bad from Georgia's loss to Tennessee
It is worth mentioning that Georgia's offense played pretty well against Tennessee for most of the night. Gunner Stockton had his moments throughout the game where he shined, including a huge touchdown pass to tie the game at 38 late in the game. Stockton also was effective with his legs as well and showed the versatility he brings to UGA's offense.
But Georgia's offense was held back by Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo, who failed to keep his foot on the gas when Georgia had a chance to put this game away in the third quarter with another touchdown. On top of Bobo's struggles, Georgia's defense (especially their secondary) couldn't find a way to slow down Tennessee's offense often enough.
But at the end of the day, all that matters is winning the game, and that is exactly what Georgia did.
Georgia now enters their first bye week of the season before welcoming Alabama to Athens in two weeks for yet another monster SEC showdown.
