The end of February is almost here which means the end of the recruiting dead period is almost upon us. While no recruits have been able to take visits to schools throughout February, that hasn’t stopped Georgia football from getting their foot in the door with many of the top recruits across the country.

Kirby Smart and his staff so far this month have done an excellent job on the recruiting trail and have been able to move up the list for many of the top recruits in the country. And that continued on Wednesday when Georgia received great news from a top safety.

4-star safety Jireh Edwards

Jireh Edwards is a four-star safety from Upper Marlboro, MD who is one of the best safeties in the country. According to 247Sports, Edwards is the No. 34 overall player in the country and the No. 3 ranked safety. He also is the No. 3 overall player from his home state of Maryland.

According to Hayes Fawcett with On3, Edwards announced five schools he has scheduled an official visit with for this summer, and Georgia will be getting one of those visits on June 6. Auburn, Maryland, Texas A&M and Oregon will also host Edwards throughout the summer as well.

No official predictions have been made in Edwards’ recruitment yet, but one interesting detail could be a good sign for Georgia. And that is that he recently visited Georgia for their second Junior Day at the start of February. So he clearly is very high on the Bulldogs because he will now travel to Athens a couple times throughout his recruitment all the way from Maryland.

It’s unlikely for any new information to come out about Edwards’ recruitment until after these visits take place, but the Bulldogs have to love where they stand right now with one of top players in the country.
