Former Georgia defensive back Dan Jackson has received horrible news that will have Bulldog and Lions fans wiping away tears. During training camp this week, Jackson went down with an apparent leg injury, and at first, with no timetable for a return, it has now been announced that Jackson will miss the entire 2025 NFL season.
While the team has not specified exactly what the leg injury is, it is clearly enough to keep him out for his entire rookie season. After not even getting an invite to the NFL Combine, Jackson was still drafted 230th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and was really starting to impress at training camp.
The Lions played in the NFL Hall of Fame game last week for their first preseason game, and Jackson tied for second on the team with six total tackles and four solo tackles. Head coach Dan Campbell had a short statement on Jackson's injury.
"It looks like he is going to be down for a while," Campbell said.

Jackson was a walk-on at Georgia and made the most of his opportunities, and in his final season, he played all 14 games for the Bulldogs, starting 13 of those. Jackson finished third on the team overall in tackles with 64 and also had five pass breakups, two interceptions, 1.5 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one blocked punt.
Jackson was the definition of a walk-on success story in college football, as he also earned Coaches All-SEC Third Team honors after the 2024 season. Overall in his career, Jackson appeared in 47 games for Georgia with 19 starts. His overall career stats look impressive as well, with 140 total tackles, nine pass breakups, 4.5 tackles for a loss, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, two blocked kicks, and one fumble recovery.
Georgia fans will certainly be sad they don't get to see a team favorite on the field this season in the NFL, but that just means his comeback will be even greater.
