The question of "who is the greatest Georgia Bulldogs football player of all time" is no longer the easy answer it once was. For decades, there would be zero hesitation for the reply to come back as Herschel Walker (maybe a sprinkling of Charley Trippi here and there from old-timers).

But the modern Georgia fan might give you a different answer, and that was on full display when former Georgia great Aaron Murray gave his take on that question.

Appearing on The Next Round, Murray didn't hesitate to stir the Bulldog Nation pot a little by calling fellow quarterback Stetson Bennett IV the "greatest Georgia football player of all time"

Murray gave a pretty solid breakdown, "What he was able to accomplish, the way he played in those two seasons, the way he played in the playoffs, the way he played in the national championship, to me, he's the GOAT. I'm separating college and the NFL when I rank 'the greats' when people ask me about Georgia football."

This may come across like a slap in the face to Georgia fans who were there for the Herschel Walker era, but is Murray wrong? The argument could be (and has been) made that Bennett might be the GOAT of the Dawgs.

In truth, there are really only two contenders for this title -- running back Herschel Walker, and quarterback Stetson Bennett. There were other greats who graced the field at Sanford Stadium, but those two names stand above all others.

Comparing the two resumes of Walker and Bennett is nearly pointless. Players from far different eras playing under completely different rules, and against somewhat different opponents. Two completely different positions, yet both managed to carry their team.

Herschel vs Stetson. Is there a clear winner? It's LeBron vs MJ, Emmitt vs Barry, or The Great One vs Super Mario reduced down to a patch of grass between the hedges in Athens, Ga.

But the comparisons have to be made if you want to quantify who the greatest is.

Comparing Herschel Walker to Stetson Bennett is an exercise in futility

Walker's accomplishments are gargantuan, and some still call him the greatest college football player of all time, hotly debated with Auburn fans who prop up Bo Jackson. Heisman winner, national champion, and multiple record-breaker. Walker is pure Georgia lore and many will genuflect when using his name.

Bennet was the guy no one wanted. A walk-on that the coaches essentially told to try somewhere else, because starting at Georgia wasn't in the cards for him. Yet, he led his team to back-to-back national championships, filled his trophy case with playoff and championship game MVP trophies, and is widely considered the greatest walk-on player of all time.

Arguments could be made on both sides, and while the majority of the Bulldog Nation probably still leans toward calling Herschel the greatest, recency bias plays a big part in the growing number of fans who think Stetson is the GOAT.

Murray is probably looking at it from a quarterback's point of view, knowing all that goes into having to play that position in the modern game, and having come up just short more than once in his Georgia career.

Truth be told, you could answer in either direction and feel safe in knowing that...well...you're not wrong. But neither is the person with the opposing view.
