The only teams that ever seem to complain about the College Football Playoff rankings are the ones who need help getting in the top 12. You hardly ever see the teams sitting atop the rankings complain, and that’s because they’ve done well enough to earn their spot in the field so they don’t have to petition to be included.
That’s where Georgia’s found themselves each of the last two years as they entered the playoff as the 2-seed in 2024 and the 3-seed last year. Now as Georgia heads into the release of the first rankings Tuesday night they can just sit back and relax because they should be one of the teams sitting at the top of the rankings again this year.
Georgia has nothing to worry about
Georgia has done more than enough so far this season to be one of highest ranked teams in the first edition of the CFP rankings. Their win at Alabama this season is one of the best wins in all of college football, but their victories over Florida and Oklahoma look good according to the analytics as well.
Georgia however does have their loss to Auburn which looks even worse after they’ve dropped two games in a row since beating Georgia. Their wins though should be good enough to make them the highest ranked one loss team while also being ranked higher than some undefeated teams like UCLA and Utah.
The one team who likely will be ranked above Georgia is Miami. They are 8-0 and the only team above Georgia in the AP Poll, so even though they don’t have the same caliber of wins that Georgia has they likely will still be above them.
Many of the other top programs across the country will be anxiously watching these rankings on Tuesday ready to complain if they don’t go their way. Teams like Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU and Ole Miss all figured to be in the playoff this year, but they each of two losses already. Some of those teams will be inside the top 12 on Tuesday while some will be on the outside looking in, and you better believe those on the outside will be complaining.
Georgia however doesn’t have anything to complain about. Whether they are No. 1, No. 2 or even a little lower they are comfortably in the playoff field right now, so when fans of other teams are complaining Georgia can sit back knowing that all those teams had to do was win more games like they did.
