Georgia fans can’t stop laughing at Florida after Mike White’s revenge game in Athens

Former Florida head coach Mike White got some revenge on the Gators Tuesday night, pulling off an upset win to get inside of the NCAA Tournament bubble.

After nearly seven years in Gainesville, Florida Gators fans were ready to move on from Mike White. White replaced Billy Donovan in 2015 after Donovan left for the NBA, and White proceeded to make more NCAA Tournament than he missed. However, White’s Gators were never higher than a No. 4 seed, and after that Elite Eight run in 2017, White never got past the first weekend of March Madness again.

In 2022, Florida finally moved on from White in favor of Todd Golden, who despite the Gator’s success this season is embroiled in an unseemly scandal, and White landed at Georgia. Still, Golden’s Gators entered Athens on Tuesday night as the No. 3 team in the country, the type of team White could never deliver.

However, White did deliver his former team a devastating 88-83 loss that could knock Florida out of a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, which of course, brought a smile to every face in Athens.

White’s Bulldogs were led by a stellar performance from sophomore guard Silas Demary Jr. who finished with 21 points on 7-12 shooting. The Dawgs shot over 50% from the field as a team and went 10-18 from beyond the arc, including a dagger three from sophomore wing Blue Cain.

Florida won’t be able to do much talking now, but even more importantly for Georgia fans, White could be taking the Dawgs to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his three-year tenure. Tuesday night’s victory was UGA’s third Quad 1 win of the season and Georgia now holds victories over Florida, St. John’s, and Kentucky (currently No. 3, 7, 17)

The Georgia fans who were already growing frustrated with White’s tenure, will have to eat some crow right along with the big-talking Florida fans who expected to roll to another 30-point win over the Dawgs after winning this rivalry 89-59 back in January.
