Georgia fans will love where Dawgs land in AP Top 25 projection, but there is a catch

Next year might very well be Georgia's year, but they have an emerging rival to keep at arm's reach.

With Indiana defeating Miami on Monday night, we have a new national champion in college football. While the Hoosiers and the Hurricanes are in prime position to make it back to the College Football Playoff, how sure are we that is going to happen? When looking ahead to what could be coming down the track for Georgia and the rest of the college football powerhouses, it is all about forecasting a bit.

Here is what FanSided.com's Cody Williams feels the AP Top 25 may look like his his early projection.

  1. Texas Longhorns
  2. Georgia Bulldogs
  3. Ohio State Buckeyes
  4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  5. Indiana Hoosiers
  6. Texas Tech Red Raiders
  7. Oregon Ducks
  8. Oklahoma Sooners
  9. Texas A&M Aggies
  10. Miami Hurricanes
  11. Michigan Wolverines
  12. BYU Cougars
  13. LSU Tigers

Georgia comes in at No. 2 behind Texas, but ahead of Ohio State. From the early looks of it, most prognosticators should have those three teams in some order heading into next season. While Williams' infatuation with all things Texas is well documented (go check out False Start if you want proof of that!), the Longhorns have never beaten Georgia in three tries since joining the SEC in 2024.

Get ready for another slobberfest of an offseason when it comes to the delightful Texas hype train...

Georgia lands at No. 2 in FanSided's way-too-early AP Top 25 projection

Look. Being No. 2 heading into next season is way better than being No. 6 in the final AP Poll of 2025. Of the teams Williams has in and around the playoff cutline at No. 11, it is easy to see any number of those teams making the playoff next season. However, only four teams made the 12-team playoff in back-to-back seasons. Georgia was the only program out of the SEC to make the CFP dream a reality.

For the most part, Williams' list looks spot-on. It is not until you get to LSU at No. 13 where you start to feel unsure if those fringe contenders have what it takes to get in. Some of them will, while others will not. It is the nature of the beast. All offseason long, we were certain teams like Clemson, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Texas were all going to make the playoff. Two came close, the others did not.

Right now, the three teams that feel like the surest of locks to make the playoff are Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas. These are blue-bloods with the necessary talent to get there. In that next rung of teams, you would have to say Indiana, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Texas Tech are all right there. There are slivers of doubt, but not a ton. After that, how do you feel about Oklahoma or Texas A&M?

In the end, if Georgia is only looking up at Texas, it is good news for Georgia, and bad news for Texas...
