Georgia football deserves same treatment from CFP committee as Alabama
Georgia football may not have played the best game against UMass, but they still were able to handle their business in dominant fashion 59-21. A 38-point victory is exactly what UGA needed, because a win by a small margin could have been enough reason for the College Football Playoff committee to drop the Bulldogs in their rankings this week.
Thankfully however this is something that Georgia doesn't have to worry about.
Now the question is how far the committee will move Georgia up in their rankings this week. A win against a team like UMass, no matter by how much, may not warrant any movement in some people's eyes. However, based on past actions by the committee, Georgia should expect to move up a decent amount on Tuesday.
CFP committee needs to give Georgia the same treatment as Alabama
Last week Alabama beat Mercer at home 52-7. That win was good enough in the committee's eyes to move the Tide up three spots in their rankings to No. 7. Alabama even jumped Ole Miss who was ranked higher than them while they were on a bye.
This decision was kind of shocking because Mercer, similalry to UMass, is not a good team. But if the committee is willing to move Alabama up after that win then Georgia should expect the same treatment as well.
It would be a little surprising if that happens though because it's no secret that the committee has not been a fan of Kirby Smart and Georgia this season. But if they want to earn any sort of respect from the country, then they have to move Georgia up a decent amount.
Thankfully some teams did lose in front of Georgia this week, including Ole Miss and Indiana, so the Bulldogs may move up naturally. But Georgia better receive some credit from the committee for their win over UMass, even though it really doesn't deserve that much praise.
