After Georgia’s loss to Ole Miss last week, the Bulldogs dropped nine spots in the AP Poll all the way down to No. 11. However, fast forward just one week and Georgia football got the biggest win in all of college football.
The Bulldogs knocked off No. 6 Tennessee (No. 7 in the CFP rankings) 31-17 to get their season back on track. Now with Georgia in control of their own destiny to make the College Football Playoff, let's see where the updated AP Poll has them ranked ahead of their non-conference matchup against UMass this week.
Georgia moves up the AP Poll
Kirby Smart and Georgia now find themselves back inside the AP Poll's top 10, moving up three spots to No. 8. Tennessee, the team UGA just beat, have slid down to No. 10.
Georgia also is now ranked ahead of Ole Miss once again, even though the Rebels just dominated Georgia just last week. Georgia leapfrogged Ole Miss while they were on a bye, who now sit at No. 9.
The same sentiment however is not the case with Alabama, who sit one spot ahead of Georgia at No. 7.
At this point in the season these rankings don’t mean anything anymore. The only rankings that matter are the College Football Playoff rankings. These will once again be released Tuesday night, and it will be very interesting to see where the committee ranks Georgia.
Will the committee also move Georgia up this much and past Ole Miss? It seems unlikely since the committee was not a fan of Georgia in last week’s rankings. But after Georgia got the best win of the weekend in all of college football, anything is possible.
But as long as Georgia keeps winning, they’ll be in the 12-team CFP field. Which at the end of the day is the only thing that matters right now.
