Georgia football has the biggest game of their season Saturday night when Alabama strolls into Sanford Stadium. The winner of this game not only will become a frontrunner to win the SEC, but they will become one of the hottest picks to win the National Championship.
It goes without saying how important this game is. But the result of this game has a much larger impact than this regular season alone. If Georgia can beat Alabama, they will change the course of college football forever.
Georgia will change college football forever if they beat Alabama
Georgia has been the best program in the country over the last five years. They have won two National Chamionships and two SEC titles during that timeframe, and no other program can live up to that success.
But the one thing that is still holding Georgia back is their lack of success against Alabama. For all the good that Kirby Smart has brought to Georgia's program, he is unable to get over the hump that is Alabama. Smart is a measly 1-6 against the Crimson Tide, which includes a close loss last season on the road.
So the fact that Smart and Georgia haven't proven that they can get past Alabama forces some college football fans to withhold naming UGA the best program in the country. So a win on Saturday would change all of that.
Part of Smart's legacy is on the line on Saturday as well. Smart has already done enough in his career to go down as one of the greatest coaches of all time, but he needs to show that he is good enough to beat Alabama. And falling to 0-2 against Kalen DeBoer during his Alabama tenure would significantly hurt his legacy in that regard.
So one thing is abundantly clear, Georgia needs to beat Alabama. Not only for the success of this season, but so Georgia can be remembered as having one of the greatest runs in college football history.
Georgia and Alabama are schedule to face-off at 7:30 pm EST, and the Bulldogs are currently favored to win by 2.5 points.
