Georgia football in great position to land the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country
Recruiting always seems to hit the backburner once the season begins in the eyes of us fans, but thankfully that has not been the case for Kirby Smart and his staff. Georgia already boasts one of the top 2025 recruiting classes in the country and they have a chance to improve on that in a big way as one of the top players in the country will be visiting Athens this weekend.
Recruits do not get much better than Elijah Griffin. Griffin is a five-star defensive lineman from Savannah, GA and is the No. 5 overall player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also is the No. 1 player from the state of Georgia as well as the No. 1 defensive lineman in his class.
I could go on and on about all of the tools that Griffin possesses at his young age already, but that would just be redundant and repeating what everyone else has already said. So what I will share with you instead are his staggering high school stats. Griffin throughout his high school career has already accumulated 69 tackles for loss including a whopping 35.5 sacks. Oh yeah, did I mention these were his totals entering his senior season?
I don't know about you, but someone who is able to rack up that level of production before they even began their senior season is someone Georgia has to bring to Athens. Thankfully it appears that's exactly what is happening.
Georgia already holds four crystal ball predictions on 247Sports to land Griffin with the latest prediction being logged at the beginning of September. So this visit is just confirmation as to where Georgia stands with Griffin, confirmation that Georgia is the team to beat.
The Bulldogs will have to hold off USC and Miami who are the two other programs to make Griffin's top three, but Georgia has been the leader in this recruitment for quite some time now and it would be shocking to see them lose. So let's hope Smart and his staff can get this recruitment to the finish line this weekend as a commitment from Griffin would move the Bulldogs' 2025 recruiting class from No. 5 to No. 3 in the country.
