One of Georgia's top targets in the 2027 recruiting class is DJ Jacobs. According to 247Sports Jacobs is a five-star EDGE and the No. 1 overall player in the country. He is also the top ranked player from the state of Georgia, so it's obvious why UGA was motivated to land his commitment.
Jacobs still has a year left in his recruitment, but he decided that Monday was the day to announce his commitment. Georgia was one of his finalists, but unfortunately they lost out to Ohio State as Jacobs announced his commitment to the Buckeyes late Monday night.

Georgia football misses on top ranked Peach State recruit
This is a big loss for Georgia because there isn't a player better in the 2027 class than Jacobs. He also is in Georgia's backyard and they still couldn't get the job done, and that will always be a tough pill to swallow.
This is now the second year in a row that Georgia has missed on the No. 1 player from the Peach State. In the 2026 class it was five-star EDGE LaDamion Guyton who decided to play for Texas Tech. Kirby Smart used to be known for being able to keep the best players from Georgia in the state, but this is now two classes in a row that he has failed.
This ultimately isn't the end of the world for Georgia. They always miss on some of their top targets every recruiting cycle because when they go after the biggest fish in the class that is bound to happen. But missing on the best player from the state of Georgia two years in a row is a problem that Smart and his staff need to solve.
Georgia currently has six players committed to their 2027 recruiting class which is ranked No. 7 in the country. While it would have been nice to win this recruitment, Georgia is still in a great position heading into the new year.
