Georgia football's one big issue against Georgia Tech is very obvious

That was the worst half of football from Georgia in quite some time.

That very well might have been the worst half Georgia football has played all season. Georgia Tech gashed the defense the entire half and Carson Beck and the offense couldn't get anything going. And when they looked like they were finally moving the ball well, Dominic Lovett fumbled the ball after a big gain.

Georgia Tech also had 307 yards of offense compared to Georgia's 137. Looking at time of possession, the Yellow Jackets had the ball for about 20 minutes compared to Georgia's 10. And just when UGA finally manufactured a solid drive on the last possession of the half, Georgia's field goal attempt wasn't even close.

Add all of that together, and Georgia Tech shockingly leads Georgia 17-0 at the half.

How is that terrible of a half even possible? Georgia has looked very good in so many games this season, especially two weeks ago when they beat Tennessee. So why is Georgia all of a sudden struggling against a team like Georgia Tech, who the Bulldogs should have no business struggling with?

The answer to that question is quite obvious.

Lack of motivation for this game

As much as Georgia likes to build up this game as a big rivalry matchup, everyone knows that Georgia Tech is UGA's third rival behind Florida and Auburn. So even though this game does matter and Georgia wants to destroy their in-state rival, this rivalry doesn't compare to the other two.

But on top of that, this game against Georgia is pretty meaningless when it comes to the outcome of this season. First of all, Georgia already has their spot clinched in the SEC Championship. It's not like this game would ever impact their chances to make it to Atlanta anyways, but the fact that they are already in may subconsciously cause them to take their foot off the gas.

Then you look at the College Football Playoff, and this game doesn't have much meaning towards that either. Win or lose, Georgia can still make the playoff if they win the SEC Championship game next weekend. Sure losing this game does have an impact on what seed Georgia would earn if they make the CFP, but the fact that Georgia can still make the playoff next weekend regardless of this result could be making them care about this game less.

Now it's up to Kirby Smart to wake this team up in the locker room during halftime. So far this game is one of the most embarrassing performances from Georgia in quite some time, so hopefully the second half looks a lot different, or Georgia's win streak over Tech will be coming to an abrupt end.
