Georgia Football's SEC title hopes partially relies on help from Alabama and Texas
LSU Tigers
This is where things start to get interesting, and where Georgia needs a little help. Georgia and LSU do not play each other this season, so the head-to-head tiebreaker won't be able to differentiate these two teams this year.
According to the SEC, the second tiebreaker is their record against common SEC opponents. So to determine who wins this tiebreaker, we need to look at the teams both Georgia and LSU lost to in conference play and see if the other team beat that opponent.
LSU's one conference loss came to Texas A&M, a team Georgia does not play this season. So that does not help determine who wins the tiebreaker between these teams. However, LSU plays Alabama this weekend which is Georgia's one loss. So as of today, that game will determine who gets the tiebreaker between LSU and Georgia. An LSU win and the Tigers have the edge over Georgia, but an Alabama win gives the the Bulldogs the edge.
A loss by LSU to any other team would obviously put Georgia ahead of the Tigers as well, but this is something that UGA won't be able to rely on. LSU's final three games after Alabama are Florida, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. Those are three likely wins for the Tigers right there.
So a win by the Tide this weekend would do wonders for Georgia's SEC Championship game hopes.
