Georgia and Oklahoma will battle for the first time as conference foes this weekend when the Sooners come to Athens on Saturday. These two storied programs have played only one other time in their history , and that meeting turned into one of the greatest college football games in recent history.
The only time Georgia and Oklahoma have met on a football field was at the 2018 Rose Bowl. This marked the Bulldogs first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff, and this is a game that is worth it for UGA fans to relive as often as possible.

The 2018 Rose Bowl put Georgia and Oklahoma against each other in the College Football Playoff semifinals. 60 minutes wasn't long enough to determine a winner in this game as this matchup went to two overtimes. The game ended 54-48 in Georgia's favor after a 27-yard touchdown run by Sony Michel.
That was just one of three rushing touchdowns for Michel during this game as he found the end zone two other times with his legs while rattling off 181 yards on just 11 carries. He also caught a touchdown pass as well to make it four total trips to the end zone. Nick Chubb had an amazing game as well as he totaled 145 yards on 14 carries while scoring two touchdowns of his own.
Quarterback Jake Fromm had a great day throwing the ball as he completed 20 of 29 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns.
This win at the time was the biggest win of the Kirby Smart era, and it stayed that way until the 2021 National Championship game. They unfortunately came up one play short of beating Alabama in the National Championship game this season, but they got their revenge four years later when they took down the Tide to win Kirby Smart's first national title.
Georgia can continue controlling the narrative with a win over Oklahoma
Georgia in their history is 1-0 against Oklahoma. That's hardly worth bragging about even if the one win came in the CFP at the Rose Bowl, but as of now Georgia can say that Oklahoma has never beat them. All it takes is one win on Saturday for Oklahoma to tie the series up though, so to stay in control of the all time series Georgia needs to win on Saturday.
Georgia also is the top dog in the SEC. Sure Texas is ranked higher than them right now, but Georgia is the two-time defending champion so no one can claim they run the SEC until they knock Georgia off. A win for Georgia on Saturday keeps them in control of their own destiny to win the conference again this year, but a loss makes it far more challenging for them to make it to the SEC Championship game.
So much is on the line for Georgia this weekend. Oklahoma is a team that's been struggling a bit the past few weeks, but they by no means will be easy to defeat. Georgia is predicted to win, but they will still need to play extremely well if they are going to win.
