Georgia football survived on Saturday against Florida 34-20, and while winning will always be the thing that matters most, this win was not great for a lot of reasons.

However, Georgia accomplished a major milestone with this win, and while it is extremely impressive it is also a reminder of how frustrating the last few seasons have still been at times.

Georgia's dominant four-year stretch

Georgia's win over Florida on Saturday means that the Bulldogs have won 48 straight games against teams not named Alabama. This dates all the way back to Nov. 7, 2020 when Georgia lost to Florida 44-28.

Let's first begin by acknowledging how impressive this streak really is. We all know how dominant Georgia has been over the last three and a half seasons, but a stat like this puts into perspective more than most other stats.

Other than Alabama, it just doesn't matter who Georgia lines up against. Whether it be an elite SEC team that people think can knock off the Bulldogs, or an early season non-conference opponent that's ranked high, Georgia always finds a way to win. Even when they get into the College Football Playoffs against the other elite teams from that season, Georgia still finds a way to get it done.

However, while this win streak is impressive, it is still equally frustrating.

Alabama still stands in Georgia's way

Even though Kirby Smart and Georgia have dominated college football over the last few years, they still can't get over the hump that as Alabama. During this four-year stretch, Georgia has played Alabama four teams and has a 1-3 record against the Tide. This includes their loss about a month ago and losses in the 2021 and 2023 SEC Championship games.

However, Georgia's one win came in the National Championship game, so that is something UGA will always have over Alabama.

But still, it is very frustrating that there has to be a little note in the fine print when discussing this streak that reminds us about how Georgia really struggles against Alabama. Sure Georgia has passed the Tide on a national scale over the course of these last few years, but UGA still isn't 100 percent dominant like we all wish they were.

It may be awhile now until Georgia plays Alabama again. It's unlikely that the Tide make the SEC Championship game and they are one loss away from missing the CFP as well. But maybe that's a good thing. As much as Georgia would love the chance to play Alabama again, maybe it's in their best interest to avoid them because when they do, it has always resulted in a win the last four seasons.
