Arrests and suspensions are the last thing anyone wants in their football program. Unfortunately for Georgia football, those incidents have become far too common over the last few years.
These negative headlines once again hit the program as two Bulldogs were both suspended due to unrelated driving incidents this past week. Wide receiver Nitro Tuggle was the first known Bulldog this week to be arrested as he was charged with reckless driving and speeding. Offensive lineman Marques Easley was the second Bulldog who was suspended after reports of an auto accident he was involved in earlier this week.
Easley was reportedly involved in an auto accident where he crashed into an apartment building on March 17. Now reports have come out that he was arrested Friday afternoon and released on a $1,000 bond on three counts of reckless conduct, a misdemeanor, and one count of reckless driving.
When will this end?
As mentioned, the Bulldogs have been in the news far too often involving arrests and suspensions, especially when it comes to car related incidents. It has gotten to the point where college football fans all throughout the country are wondering what’s going on and if Kirby Smart deserves to be held accountable.
Smart likely has done everything that he can to handle these situations, and that was seen when he suspended Easley and Tuggle earlier this week when these incidents were reported. He also likely has had many conversations with his team about this throughout the last few years as well.
But Smart and his staff can only do so much. They can’t be there 24/7 with every player making sure they are being responsible off the field. At some point the players need to step up and hold each other accountable to not allow these incidents to keep occurring.
Hopefully that happens now, because the last thing anyone wants to see is another arrest or suspension surrounding a similar incident.
