Georgia football and Alabama are ready to square off in what could be the biggest regular season game in the SEC this season. Both teams believe they are good enough to not ony win the SEC, but make a deep run in the College Football Playoff. However, only one team can emerge victorious and take a big step in the right direction in accomplishing both of those goals.
Georgia and Alabama are scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 pm EST, but now is a good time to take a brief look at the history between these two blue bloods before the game begins.
Alabama football dominates Georgia all time
Typically Georgia fans will see a dominant history whenever they look back in time against any opponent. That however couldn't be further from the truth agaisnt Alabama. In fact, it is the Crimson Tide who have a signifiant upper hand over the Bulldogs.
Georgia actually got off to a fast start to this rivalry back in 1895 when they won the first ever meeting 30-6. Follow that up with a tie in 1901 and another win in 1902 and the Bulldogs were off and running in this matchup. Unfortunately that is when things took a turn for the worse and Alabama began to flex their muscles.
The Crimson Tide were able to rattle off a few wins in a row and never looked back as they now hold a 44-26-4 edge in this mathcup's history. Georgia's record looks even worse in recent years as they have lost nine of the last 10 meetings. This includes a disappointing 1-6 record during Kirby Smart's tenure.
Last year Alabama emerged victorious in the most recent meeting 41-34. Georgia did fight all the way back after trailing 28-0, but a late touchdown after UGA took the lead proved to be too much for the Bulldogs.
This year's game however is a new chapter in this series as it is the first time Alabama will come to Athens in Smart's tenure. A win in this game would prove that Georgia is in fact the top program in the conference while a loss would show that the Crimson Tide might always have Georgia's number.
Either way this is a must watch game that will shape the rest of the college football season.
