Georgia Football: Series history vs. Texas
I always love looking at the all time series history Georgia football has with their opponents each and every week. Typically Georgia leads the series against whoever they are playing, sometimes by a very large margin. But there are a couple teams who do hold an edge over Georgia, and I'm sure you can think of some.
But going into this game I had no clue what the series would look like. As it turns out, Georgia and Texas have only played each other five times in their history, and only once since the mid-80s. This is pretty surprising considering how storied both programs are.
Let's take a quick look and see what the history between these two elite programs looks like.
Longhorns hold sizable lead
Unfortuantely for Georgia, Texas is one of those teams that holds the edge over the Bulldogs. Texas has actually been very dominant against Georgia, holding a 4-1 all time record.
The last meeting came in 2019 in the Sugar Bowl when Texas beat Georgia 28-21. This was also the game where the Longhorns' mascot Bevo charged Uga pregame. We need to avenge Uga Saturday night for that.
The most recent game after 2019 came in 1984 at the Cotton Bowl, where Georgia got their one win in this series 10-9. But before that was dominance by Texas, winning the first three matchups in 1949, 1957 and 1958. The game in '58 was the only meeting ever played on the Longhorns' campus, a game Texas won 13-8.
Let's hope Kirby Smart is able to turn the tide in this series Saturday night beause a 1-5 record against Texas would look hideous. Georgia may be the underdogs in this game, but that doesn't mean that can't pull of the upset win.
And it will be that much better when the win comes in Texas' own stadium, which will also mark Smart's 100th career victory at Georgia.
