Georgia football's regular season has been done for just two days, and there is already some transfer portal news sweeping the program. Most thought this news wouldn't start happening until the end of the season, but one player couldn't wait any longer and has already stated that he will be transferring this offseason.

CB Julian Humphrey will enter the transfer portal

Georgia corner Julian Humphrey has announced on Sunday that he will be entering his name into the transfer portal. The fact that this is happening in general isn't that shocking, because that is where the current state of college athletics is at. However, it is very surprising for Humphrey to announce this decision days before Georgia plays in the SEC Championship game.

Humphrey started for Georgia in their first 10 games this season before being beat out by Daniel Harris recently for the starting job. But still, he has been a major contributor for Georgia and would surely receive significant playing time off the bench even if he is no longer a starter.

There is however one clear reason why Humphrey is making this decision even though Georgia still has the entire postseason in front of them, and that is because the transfer portal officially opens on Dec. 9. So while Humphrey could have waited until after the SEC Championship game on Saturday to make this announcement, it does make sense for him to do this now if he has already made up his mind.

On Dec. 9, hundreds of players will start flooding the portal and college coaches will begin recruiting them to their school. So Humphrey likely wants to get involved in that process as soon as possible so he doesn't get lost in the shuffle and miss out on any potential opportunities.

So while it is tough to lose him at this point in the season, Kirby Smart and Georgia need to focus on what lies ahead. And if someone isn't fully bought in like Humphrey, then it's probably for the best that he moves on now.
