Georgia football star linebacker Jalon Walker found out on Wednesday that he won the 2024 Butkus Award, which goes to the nation's best linebacker. While this award is extremely difficult to win, it really is not surprising after witnessing the season that Walker just had.
So far this season, Walker has recorded 58 tackles which includes 6.5 sacks. He also recovered two fumble this season for Georgia's defense as well. Walker was at his best in Georgia's two wins against Texas this season where he recorded four of his sacks, including a dominant three sack and eight tackle performance in their win at Texas earlier this season.
Obviously winning this award is a huge deal, and Walker's teammates know that as well. Walker was surprised with this award on Wednesday in front of the entire team during a meeting, and the team's reaction to this is something every Georgia fan needs to see.
Georgia teammates go crazy for Jalon Walker
If you are even a little familiar with Georgia football, then you know how special the culture is within the program. Everyone cares about the team more than their individual performance, so that's why the rest of the team was just as excited as Walker when he was presented with this award.
It's also fun watching Kirby Smart move off to the side with a huge smile on his face as Walker gave a mini speech to the team and representatives presenting this award.
Walker is only in his third season with Georgia, so there is a chance he could return next season to try and win this award two years in a row. But that is very unlikely to happen as Walker most likely will be declaring for the NFL Draft once Georgia's season is over.
But regardless of what his decision is, Walker's legacy has been cemented in Georgia football history forever, and it has been an absolute joy watching him play these last three years.
