Georgia football trending to flip rival DL commit
As Georgia football’s annual rivalry game against Florida inches closer, there are quite a few stories off the field that are developing between these programs that are unrelated to the game this Saturday.
First we had the announcement of a location change for this game in 2026 and 2027. Now there is a massive recruiting update that favors Georgia over their rival Florida.
DL Jeremiah McCloud
Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons of On3 have placed an official prediction for defensive lineman Jeremiah McCloud to flip his commitment from Florida to Georgia.
McCloud is a three-star defensive lineman in the 2025 class and the No. 444 player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also is the No. 44 defensive lineman in his class and the No. 56 player from Georgia. Rivals on the other hand is much higher on McCloud, ranking him as a four-star prospect and No. 229 player in the country.
McCloud has been committed to the Gators since the beginning of May, but that clearly isn’t stopping Kirby Smart and Georgia from getting involved.
Another school to potentially keep an eye on in this recruitment is Florida State. Even though the Seminoles are having one of the worst seasons in college football this year, McCloud has still visited Florida State once this season already. Also, according to McCloud’s 247Sports profile, he has an official visit scheduled to Florida State this weekend. It is however yet to be seen if that is still in fact on the books or not.
McCloud wouldn’t be the highest-ranked recruit in Georgia’s 2025 class, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be excited. Not only is it a great feeling to steal a recruit from a rival, but if Smart and his staff want McCloud this bad then it’s probably wise to ignore his ranking altogether.
No timeline has been announced yet as to when McCloud’s flip to Georgia could become official, but it may just be a matter of time until UGA gets some great recruiting news.
