After an extremely long offseason, Georgia football is finally back. The Bulldogs are set to take the field for the first time this season against a Marshall team who just isn’t anywhere near the level of UGA.
But what do the sportsbooks have to say about this game? Let’s take a quick look and see how many points Vegas favors Georgia by and make a quick prediction if the Bulldogs will be able to win by that many points or not.
Georgia vs. Marshall final odds
As of Friday, Aug. 29 at 11:30 pm EST, Georgia is a 38.5 point favorite over Marshall, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The over-under for this game is also set at 52.5 points as well. ESPN agrees that UGA is a massive favorite in this game as well as they give Georgia a 97.3 percent chance to beat Marshall.
Georgia vs. Marshall prediction
Georgia is not good when they are favored by this many points. In fact, the Bulldogs are 0-12-1 against the spread under Kirby Smart when they are favored by at least 38 points. Sure Georgia still won all 13 of these games, but UGA has failed to cover the spread even once when they are predicted to win by this many points.
Will Saturday against Marshall be any different?
Georgia has the most talented roster in Smart’s tenure, so that suggests that they will be able to win by a wide margin. But will they be able to win by 40 points? That seems unlikely for the first game of the season with a new quarterback under center and countless new faces across the entire team.
Georgia will still win this game comfortably, but Marshall will push UGA a little more than anyone is going to want to see, especially during the first half.
Prediction: Georgia wins 33-13
