Georgia football’s 2025 season opener is right around the corner. In less than 100 days, the Bulldogs will welcome Marshall to Sanford Stadium to begin their 2025 season.
Georgia’s first game of the season this year is quite different because typically they are playing a high profile non-conference opponent. But Georgia opted to do things a little different this season and ease their way into the season.
This means Georgia fans won’t have to worry about losing the first game of the season as Georgia should win this game pretty easily. But since this is the first game of the season, there are many reasons why some might think this won’t be a blowout.
That however is not what Vegas is thinking.
Georgia vs Marshall opening spread
As of June 1, Georgia is a 38.5 point favorite against Marshall in their week one matchup, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The over-under for this game is also set at 54.5 points.
This means that FanDuel is predicting Georgia to win this game with a score of around 47-8.
Georgia vs Marshall spread seems a little high
While it is more than possible for Georgia to beat Marshall by nearly 40 points, it’s hard to expect that to happen in the first game of the season. This is especially the case when Georgia will be starting a new quarterback this fall as well.
On top of that, Georgia has new players from the transfer portal all over the field who will be major contributors. Sure they’ve had plenty of time to practice with the team and get used to how Georgia plays football, but experiencing their first game as a Bulldog will be completely different from practice.
Kirby Smart may not even want to embarrass Marshall either, so there’s a chance the backups could get a lot of playing time in the second half if UGA pulls away early.
It will be interesting to watch this spread to see if it moved at all as the summer rolls on, but 38.5 points is quite a lot for Georgia’s season opener all things considered.
