An exciting new documentary has been announced by Netflix that will reportedly follow the 2024 SEC football season. Upon seeing this news, it was impossible for Georgia football fans to not be extremely excited.
Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs participated in many of the biggest games of the season including their road games at Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas as well as their showdown in Athens against Tennessee. Georgia also took home the SEC Championship against Texas about two weeks ago as well. So it was a safe assumption that Georgia would be heavily featured in this documentary as the champion of the conference.
That however will not be the case because it was reported that Georgia is one of five schools that opted out of being included in this documentary along with Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Texas.
Georgia football will not be included in Netflix documentary
This was a huge bummer at first because it would have been really cool for Georgia fans to get a behind the scenes look at the 2024 season and UGA's run to the SEC championship. Also, with today's college football world being so focused on viewership and NIL opportunities, it's hard to understand why Georgia would turn this opportunity down when millions of college football fans will be tuning in.
But on second thought, it may not be such a bad idea to opt out of this documentary.
The biggest reason why Smart and Georgia maybe didn't want to participate may be because they want to keep as many things about how the operate their program as hidden as possible. The last thing they want to do is accidentaly reveal something about their team that can be used against them in the seasons to come.
Who knows if that is the case with Georgia or not, but regardless it is still a bit of a bummer that Georgia will not be included. Also, it's hard to get excited about this documentary in general based on many of the top teams in the conference also choosing to opt out.
But at the end of the day, Georgia is the champion of the SEC, and Netflix will just have to deal with not being able to tell that story in their documentary.
