One of Georgia’s biggest games this season falls on Oct. 11 when the Bulldogs travel to Auburn to take on the Tigers. This is always a big game on Georgia’s schedule since the Tigers are a hated rival, but Auburn projects to be a lot better this season so that increases the magnitude of this showdown.
On top of that, this game has already been announced as a night game which makes this matchup even more exciting. But there was one final piece to the puzzle that was added this week that makes this a must win for UGA.

Auburn will retire Cam Newton’s jersey when they play Georgia
Last week Auburn announced that they will be retiring Cam Newton’s jersey this season. Newton obviously deserves this honor after the remarkable season he had that led Auburn to their 2010 National Championship.
However, on Monday it was announced that Auburn will retire Newton’s jersey on Oct. 11 when Georgia comes to town.
This game was already going to be challenging enough for Georgia to win because of how much better Auburn will be this season, but the added element of Newton’s ceremony will make it that much more difficult. The Auburn fans will be into this game that much more now, and the Tigers team won’t want to let Newton down and lose on the night they retire their jersey, so overall this game has a chance to go sideways for Georgia.
But knowing Kirby Smart and how he tends to run his team, they will be extremely thankful for this opportunity. They will be excited to have the chance to spoil what could be one of the best nights in Auburn football history.
If Auburn wins they will rightfully talk about this game for years and years to come, but a loss would give them at least one negative memory attached to Newton’s historic Auburn career.
So what Georgia fan, player and coach wouldn’t want to ruin this night for Auburn?
