With National Signing Day starting to wrap up, the Georgia Bulldogs were able to pick up their third new commit on Wednesday afternoon. For those at home, this does not include players who were previously committed, but ended up signing their national letters of intent to Georgia. The player we are talking about here is three-star safety Blake Stewart out of the Woodward Academy in Atlanta.
Hayes Fawcett of Rivals was all over the signing, as he was the one to share out the graphic over on X.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Stewart is the No. 49 player from Georgia, the No. 39 safety in his class, and the No. 461 overall recruit in the 2026 cycle. Stewart initially committed to Clemson over the summer, but decommitted shortly before Halloween. After re-opening his recruitment, Stewart was down to Georgia, Miami and Vanderbilt for his commitment. He ended up choosing UGA.
Let's now unpack what the signing means for Georgia to land a prized defensive back recruit in-state.
Georgia secures the 3-star commitment of S Blake Stewart during NSD
Stewart took his time and did his research before ultimately picking Georgia. He took a full allotment of five official visits over the course of the last year. Stewart took official visits to Clemson, Miami, Michigan and Vanderbilt over the summer, before taking one to Georgia only a few weeks ago. Keep in mind that he had an offer from the Dawgs dating back to June 18, 2024, for whatever that is worth.
If we wanted to read between the lines, Stewart was probably all about Clemson until the Tigers fell apart at the seams in the first half of this season. Because of the way Clemson does things, your recruitment shuts down the instant you sign a committable offer. With Stewart backing out of it, he wanted to play the field and see what is best for him. Georgia, Miami and Vanderbilt were all finalists.
In the end, the allure of staying in-state and playing for Kirby Smart up the road was simply too good to pass up. Truth be told, the Dawgs are the only team of the three that will be in the College Football Playoff this year. Vanderbilt has been effectively boxed out, while Miami is going to need a prayer or two to somehow sneak in as the last at-large bid. For now, Stewart seems to be heading to Georgia.
Georgia needs to finish strong to potentially secure a top-five class for the umpteenth year in a row.
