The biggest win so far for Kirby Smart and Georgia in the 2027 recruiting class is when they flipped five-star running back Kemon Spell from Penn State. Spell is a Pennsylvania native, so the fact they stole the No. 1 running back in the country from his home state school was special to say the least.

Smart however isn't done trying to take recruits from Penn State as he has elite wide receiver Jamir Dean, who is currently committed to the Nittany Lions, in Athens on an official visit this weekend.

Georgia looks to disappoint Penn State again by stealing another top recruit

Dean is a four-star wide receiver who is ranked just inside the top 400 of the 247Sports composite rankings. He committed to Penn State not long ago on May 1, but he clearly isn’t as committed as the Nittany Lions want him to be.

Georgia fans knew in advance about a lot of recruits they were expecting to host this weekend, but Dean was not one of those players. Word got out fast though upon his arrival to Athens and it immediately became one of the biggest stories that was picked up by every major recruiting site.

Georgia’s goal during this visit is quite simple. It isn’t likely that they will flip him this weekend, but all they need to do is plant a seed of doubt in his head that maybe Penn State isn’t the right school for him. Maybe there’s another school out there that he would fit in better at, and maybe that school is Georgia.

If Smart can do that then Georgia will have a chance to repeat what they already did with Spell.

5-star Kemon Spell could be Georgia’s biggest key to flip Jamir Dean

Flipping a recruit from a program like Penn State isn’t easy. That’s still the case even after Georgia already did it with Spell. But the fact they already did it once could be the biggest reason why they can do it again.

Dean is a great player, but Spell is a special player. Spell is the No. 1 running back in the country and a top 10 overall recruit in the 2027 class, so if he can ditch his in-state school then why can’t Dean, who’s from Tennessee, do the same?

Spell did commit to Penn State when James Franklin was still their coach and it was his firing that led him to start looking elsewhere. But in-state players like Spell who initially want to stay home to play college football usually don’t change their mind even after a coach is fired, but Spell didn’t think Penn State was worth it.

Spell will also be in Athens this weekend as well, so he certainly will be in Dean’s ear trying to convince him to come to Georgia.

It isn’t likely that Dean will flip this weekend, but there is a good chance Georgia will give him a lot to think about. At this point that’s all they can really ask for, but the fact that he came to visit less than a month after committing to Penn State is reason enough to be hopeful.
