Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze is in a dangerous spot in his tenure. This is the third season he has been in charge of the Auburn football program, but so far he has yet to accomplish anything significant during his stint with the Tigers.

This past Saturday marked a big opportunity for Freeze to notch a marquee victory for the Tigers against Georgia. And through the first 28 minutes everything was going Auburn's way. But football is a game that lasts 60 minutes, and Georgia dominated the second half en route to their 20-10 victory.

This was the third straight loss for Auburn this season which drops them to 3-3 on the year and 0-3 in SEC play. That is nowhere near good enough at Auburn, and after two losing season in Freeze's first two years, Auburn fans are beginning to wonder if Kirby Smart and Georgia put the first nail in Freeze's coffin that could result in him being fired.

Georgia may have ended Hugh Freeze's Auburn coaching career

Auburn is not one of the top programs in the SEC, but they most certainly should be a team always in the top half with the occasional season where they challenge for an SEC title. But neither has been true so far under Freeze.

Auburn finished 6-7 during his first season in 2023 before going 5-7 last year. This season was looking promising as Auburn was ranked after starting 3-0, but three straight losses to Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Georgia has sent their season spiraling.

Auburn had a chance to win all three of these games, but nearly winning isn't good enough at Auburn. Had Freeze won just one of these games his job likely wouldn't be in jeopardy, but failing to win all three games is not going to cut it.

Not only is Auburn struggling to find any success on the field, but Freeze is losing support from the fanbase as well. Andrew Hughes with Fly War Eagle wrote that keeping Freeze at this point is an "abuse to Tiger fans." Comments to get much worse than that.

It's unlikely that Freeze will be fired during the season, but if he doesn't turn things around this year his tenure at Auburn is likely finished. And with upcoming games against Missouri, Vanderbilt and Alabama, there is a chance he finishes with a losing record for the third year in a row.

If Freeze is fired at the end of the season, everyone will look back to Georgia's win last weekend as the beginning of the end of his tenure with the Tigers. And that would be a nice memory for Georgia fans to have.
