College football fans and experts around the country have mixed feelings about Georgia football heading into the 2025 season. At the end of the day it is Georgia, so the expectation is that they will be one of the best teams in the country. But at the same time, some people question how good they will actually be and if they’ll be able to compete for an SEC or National Championship.
Josh Pate, who works for CBS Sports, is one of the most respected college football experts, and he just made a wild claim that Georgia is one team he would “sell” heading into the 2025 season.
"I don't think it is crazy to sell on Georgia," Pate shared via ugawire.usatoday.com. "But not long term. But if we're talking about last year compared to this upcoming year. Guys, they won the SEC last year and they're below 50% returning production."
Pate can’t be faulted for his rationale
Most Georgia fans will disagree with what Pate said, but it’s hard to argue against his reasoning. Georgia is losing a lot of production from a team in 2024 that did win the SEC, but still struggled at times in key areas. So selling Georgia heading into 2025 isn’t a wild claim to make because there is a realistic chance they don’t repeat as SEC Champions.
The counter argument to Pate however is that Georgia loses a lot of production every year, and that hasn’t slowed their dominance at all up to this point. So as long as Kirby Smart is still in charge in Athens, it might not be wise to bet against the Bulldogs.
It will be interesting to see if Georgia fans or people like Pate are right, but it is hard to blame people for thinking the way Pate is.
