Gunner Stockton announced his arrival to the college football two weeks ago during Georgia's win over Ole Miss. Stockton had UGA's offense humming all night as he threw four touchdown passes and ran for one more. This performance cemented his place in the Heisman Trophy conversation where he now has the fifth best odds to win the award.

But not everyone is convinced he belongs in this conversation, and Georgia football legend David Pollack is one of the people who believes he still has work to do.

David Pollack isn't ready to name Gunner Stockton a Heisman Trophy contender yet

Even though Stockton has been dominant for Georgia the past few weeks, Pollack isn't ready to crown him as a true Heisman Trophy contender. So who does he have as the frontrunners right now? These are the five players Pollack listed as his top contenders to win the Heisman Trophy.

1. Alabama QB Ty Simpson

2. Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza

3. Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss

4. Georgia Tech QB Haynes King

5. Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed

All five of these players are deserving of being in the conversation to win the Heisman right now, but Stockton certianly deserves to make this list. That is especially the case if Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is on this list because Stockton just beat him head-to-head the last time he took the field.

But all Stockton can do is put his head down and continue to prove everyone wrong. Many college football fans and analysts weren't convinced he was anywhere close to good enough to be the quarterback at Georgia, but now he has played well enough to the point where he at least needs to be mentioned when the Heisman Trophy is brought up.

Will he actually win this award? Probably not, but being in the conversation (or close to it in the case of Pollack) is a big win for Georgia this season.
