Georgia football fans are used to seeing Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs target the best recruits in the country on the recruiting trail. Typically that means Georgia is competing against some of the better programs in the country for these recruits, but sometimes that is not the case.

Four-star wide receiver Jayden McGregory recently announced his top eight schools and Steve Wiltfong confirmed that Georgia is part of that group. According to 247Sports, McGregory is the No. 2 overall player from his home state of Iowa. He also is the No. 159 overall player in the country as well.

One would assume that many of the best programs in the country would be inside the top eight for a player who is one of the top 160 players in the country. That is where this recruitment gets a little interesting because that is not necessarily the case with McGregory.

On3 shared that Minnesota, Kansas, Michigan, Tennessee, Missouri, Louisville and Michigan State are also in McGregory's top eight schools as well. This group of programs is very strange because it does include some of the best programs in the country like Tennessee and Michigan, but there are a lot of schools included who are a noticeable step below the rest.

Obviously a recruit can go to whatever school they want, but it is worth noting that these programs who may be a step below Georgia are more local to where McGregory is from in Iowa. But that is what makes this recruitment even more strange because if proximity mattered then one would think Iowa and Iowa State might be included as well. But those two schools are nowhere to be found.

According to 247Sports, Minnesota and Louisville are the two programs with official visits on the books with McGregory. It will be fun to see if Georgia is able to get an official visit as well, but this recruitment will be exciting to follow simply based on the randomness of the eight schools that made McGregory's top eight.
