Georgia’s new CFP ranking is equally unsurprising and frustrating

While Georgia did get a bye in the latest College Football Playoff ranking, it still feels rather empty.

The Georgia Bulldogs can only control what they can control, which is not the harebrained minds of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. After getting paid millions to schedule non-conference games every so often, flying from all over the country to come together in a Dallas, Texas airport hotel, the powers at be have shown that they play do standings with the best of them, y'all!

Dumb people gotta work somewhere, and many of whom are public employees at prestigious universities. Three weeks into this year's College Football Playoff rankings, what have we learned? If you schedule nobody and play nobody, you can have a treat party with the Indianas and Ohio States of the world! Also, not all league schedules are created equal. Who has Texas A&M played in the SEC?

So without further ado, here is what the Selection Committee decided would be this week's top 25.

  1. Ohio State Buckeyes (10-0)
  2. Indiana Hoosiers (11-0)
  3. Texas A&M Aggies (10-0)

Georgia has played an infinitely harder schedule than Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M combined...

Georgia Bulldogs should be a top-three team in the country by now

Let's take a gander at each of the top four teams in the country's respective resumes. No. 1 Ohio State has two ranked wins over No. 17 Texas and No. 21 Illinois. No. 2 Indiana has ranked wins over No. 21 Illinois and No. 7 Oregon. No. 3 Texas A&M has ranked wins over No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 22 Missouri. No. 4 Georgia has ranked wins over No. 20 Tennessee, No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 17 Texas.

Yes, Georgia has a ranked loss to No. 10 Alabama, but that was by three points at home weeks ago. The Bulldogs have played double the ranked teams over everyone ranked above them. They also have No. 16 Georgia Tech still on the docket. Ohio State has No. 18 Michigan. Texas A&M has No. 17. Indiana has nobody... It is abundantly clear what Georgia must do here soon: Win with style points.

Look. We still have two more weeks left in the regular season, as well as the conference championship games to sort this out. In the end, Georgia is playing the best football of any team in the country. Texas A&M almost lost at home to South Carolina last week. Indiana almost lost at Penn State two weeks ago. Ohio State has not been challenged since playing Illinois well over a month ago.

Water will find its level with the Bulldogs and the playoff rankings, but this is so painfully frustrating...
