Georgia football once again faces one of the most difficult schedules in the country this season. That is nothing new to UGA who regularly tops the strength of schedule rankings, but this year is actually a little different for the Bulldogs.
While Georgia's schedule is still challenging, one college football analyst ranked their schedule the third easiest in the SEC. A big reason for this was because Georgia's most difficult games are at home this year and their two bye weeks come at very convenient times. But there is a third reason why Georgia's schedule is easier than it could have been, and UGA has in-state rival Georgia Tech to thank for this.
Georgia only plays 3 road games this year
Not many teams in the country will be able to say this, but Georgia only has three true road games this season. Those three games are against Tennessee, Auburn and Mississippi State.
It is very rare for any team to only have three road games in a year, but that is Georgia's reality this season. Georgia however wasn't supposed to only have three road games this year, but Georgia Tech blessed UGA with this reality when they agreed to move their home game against UGA to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. This was supposed to be Georgia's fourth road game this year, but the Yellow Jackets thankfully gave this home game up which greatly benefits UGA.
Kirby Smart and Georgia also have to leave Athens a fifth time to play their annual rivalry game against Florida in Jacksonville, but that is nothing new to UGA.
So while Georgia still has to play teams like Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee this season, their schedule overall is about as simple as it can get, all things considered. And one of the biggest reasons why is because Georgia Tech gave up their home game against UGA which means Georgia only has three true road games this season.
