A big announcement was leaked on Monday as Georgia’s three annual SEC opponents beginning in 2026 were revealed. With the conference shifting to a nine game schedule next season, the SEC made the decision to give each team three opponents they will play every season, and the Bulldogs owe the SEC a huge “thank you” based on their three annual opponents.

The SEC gives Georgia the perfect annual opponents

The first reason Georgia owes the SEC a “thank you” is because they kept UGA’s two traditional rivalries in tact. Auburn and Florida will continue to be featured on Georgia’s schedule through the 2029 season, and while this was an easy decision to make UGA fans would’ve been furious if the SEC went a different route.

The SEC however did have a big decision to make on who Georgia’s third annual opponent would be as they could’ve gone a lot of different directions. But the conference went with South Carolina which is about as good as it can get.

Georgia and the Gamecocks have a lot of history with each other dating back to their time in the SEC East division, but the proximity to each other made this an easy choice ti make. However, South Carolina is the perfect option for Georgia from a competitive standpoint.

The Gamecocks have had some really good teams over the years, but more often than not they tend to find themselves in the middle of the SEC standings at best. Rarely are they good enough to compete for an SEC Championship, so they shouldn’t be a team that challenges Georgia too much over the next four years.

The SEC will re-evaluate the selections for the entire conference after the 2029 season, so the Bulldogs will get to enjoy this nice gift given to them for at least four years.
