Georgia football has hosted a lot of top recruits across the country over the last couple weeks during spring ball. This gives all of the recruits a unique opportunity to see Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs practice up close and personal to see if they can see themselves in Athens or not.
One of the most recent visitors to Georgia was four-star running back Derrek Cooper. According to On3, Cooper is the No. 3 running back in the 2026 recruiting class as well as the No. 32 overall player in the country, so it is clear that this is an extremely important visit for Georgia.
Cooper's visit began as every recruit's visit does this time of year, but that changed in a hurry as Smart and his staff did something very unique for Cooper during his visit this past weekend.
Georgia threw Cooper a birthday party
According to multiple reports, Georgia threw Cooper a birthday party during his visit this past weekend. This is something that doesn't happen anywhere in the country and may be the first time Georgia has ever done something like this as well.
This however is a very smart thing to do as recruiting is all about separating yourself from your compeitors. Georgia needs to find ways to stand out to Cooper and for him to remember them even when he is visiting other schools, and throwing a birthday party will do just that. And according to Cooper and his mom, it sounds like this party helped them have a great time in Athens while also giving them a positive impression of the program.

There is no clear leader in Cooper's recruitment, but On3 does give Miami (FL) the slight edge as of now, but Georgia is not too far behind the Hurricanes. So hopefully going the extra mile on this recent visit will help tip this recruitment in Georgia's favor.
