So far Georgia has only landed one player out of the Transfer Portal this offseason. That player however was Clemson defensive back Khalil Barnes who is one of the top transfers in the portal.
Georgia moved quickly to earn his commitment so they didn't really have much competition, but they did beat out Ole Miss who was the one team they desperately needed some revenge against.
Georgia got some quick revenge against Ole Miss
One week ago the Ole Miss Rebels ended Georgia's season by taking them down in the College Football Playoff. This loss will leave a bad taste in the mouths of everyone at Georgia for years to come, and one of the only ways to start getting over it is by getting some revenge.
Georgia will have their chance to do that on the football field next season when they take on Ole Miss on the road on Nov. 7, but until then they can try and beat out the Rebels for as many recruits as they possible can. And that's exactly what they did with Barnes.
Barnes really only showed interest in Georgia and Ole Miss when he entered the Transfer Portal. Georgia thankfully was gifted a visit before Ole Miss, and while on that visit he committed to UGA. So that visit went so well that he didn't even want to give Ole Miss a chance to win his recruitment.
Barnes is originally from Athens, GA, so it would've been tough for any school to beat Georgia for his services. But Ole Miss is one of the only teams who has an argument as to why they are better than UGA, so they could've use that to their advantage. Kirby Smart however didn't give them a chance and now the Bulldogs get to enjoy having one of the top defensive backs in the country on their team next season.
