Sometimes before a player makes his way to a college campus, there are signs of greatness on the high school football field. That was fully on display Tuesday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Buford Wolves took on the Carrollton Trojans in their classification's state championship. Buford would outshine Carrollton in the final minutes to claim their state championship for Georgia.

One of the biggest stars of the night was Buford running back Tyriq Green, who signed with Georgia.

Check out this impressive run Green had to effectively seal the deal over Carrollton to win, 28-21.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Green is the No. 8 athlete in his class, the No. 19 prospect from Georgia, and the No. 163 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Of the 53 official offers that Green garnered, he was looking primarily at Auburn and Miami, in addition to Georgia, before committing to the G back in July. Green signed with the Bulldogs on National Signing Day on Dec. 3.

After seeing his game-winning 82-yard touchdown over Carrollton, Georgia will have a use for Green.

Kirby Smart must love what Tyriq Green can bring to the table for Georgia

Clearly, Green did enough in high school at Buford to merit him being a major part of Georgia's 2026 recruiting class. While the athlete label is can often work against a prospective recruit coming out of high school, it also can work in a guy's favor like Green. Just get the ball in his hands and let's see him make some magic! With the idea of him playing running back at Georgia, Kirby Smart should love that.

One of the big advantages to Green coming to Georgia, and potentially playing running back from the start, is the Bulldogs often use a deep stable of tailbacks. Yes, they will have a featured guy. It is Nate Frazier this year, as it was Trevor Etienne before that... However, we have always seen Georgia use multiple running backs in a given year to help break down the will of the opposing defenses it faces.

Overall, it is easy to picture Green doing this against SEC defenses in the years to come. Maybe not right away, but that kind of breakaway speed and elusiveness is not coachable. It is god-given talent! In the end, Green's next game he will play will not be for the Buford Wolves, but for the Georgia Bulldogs. While snaps may be hard to come by initially, there is a chance he could see the field early.

Congratulations on winning the state championship, and we cannot wait to see what you can do now!
