Earlier this week Georgia suffered a disappointing loss to Ole Miss. UGA fell to the Rebels at home 97-95, and that was the type of loss that could keep Georgia out of the NCAA Tournament.
So Georgia needed to bounce back and get a big win to make up for that loss, and that is exactly what they did against No. 17 Arkansas on Saturday as they blew out the Razorbacks 90-76.
Georgia's big win against Arkansas is exactly what they needed
Georgia didn't just beat Arkansas, they dominated them. They left no doubt that they are the better team, and that is exactly what they needed to do after their loss to Ole Miss earlier this week.
Georgia was led by Jeremiah Wilkinson who pured in 20 points along with Blue Cain who added 18 of his own. Kanon Catchings scored 15 points and Jake Wilkins contributed 11 points off the bench.
The Bulldogs were dominant through the first 25 minutes of the game. Five minutes into the second half Georgia led Arkansas 55-36, but then the Razorbacks went on a 20-3 run to cut UGA's lead down to one point. Georgia however responded with a big run of their own which gave them some breathing room that they never let go of for the rest of the game.
This victory moves Georgia to 15-3 this season and 3-2 in conference play. There are no undefeated teams remaining in the SEC, so the Bulldogs are just one game back from first place in the SEC standings. While it is nice that Georgia still has a chance to compete for an SEC title, the best part of this win is that the Bulldogs are comfortably in the NCAA Tournament at this point in the season.
Up next for Georgia is a road date with Missouri on Tuesday and a trip to Texas next Saturday. The Bulldogs will be favored in both games, so two wins this upcoming week should be the expectation even if they are both on the road.
