The Georgia Bulldogs' two most historic rivals, Georgia Tech and Auburn, both were slated to start their 2025 seasons in hostile environments. Georgia Tech had to go on the road and play Colorado, and Auburn traveled to Baylor for a Friday night showdown.
Though it was not the prettiest, both teams snuck out big wins to start their season.
Georgia Tech Rallies despite early turnovers
If a team starts a game with three turnovers on its first three possessions, you would expect it to lose that game. However, Georgia Tech rallied and won the game by a touchdown in Boulder.
Behind their efforts was a huge game from quarterback Haynes King. King rushed for a career high 156 yards and three touchdowns. Colorado struggled throughout the game to move the ball down the field, and it ultimately cost them even when the Yellow Jackets gave them so many early chances.
Auburn finds life in previously dormant defense
Auburn's offense was far from pretty last season. However, Oklahoma transfer quarterback, Jackson Arnold, sparked life in this offense. Similar to King, Arnold pushed the Tigers to victory with his legs. He ran for over 130 yards and two touchdowns, the first to do so since Nick Marshall for the Tigers.
Auburn had zero turnovers throughout the game and went two for three in the red zone. The team looked completely different than 2024 and will be someone to keep an eye on going forward this season.
Should Georgia be worried?
Though Georgia fans shouldn't be worried, these two teams proved that they can be serious threats to Georgia's push for a championship. These two teams showcased extremely talented and mobile quarterbacks who could give the Bulldogs fits.
It is nearly impossible to judge a team after one week, but it should be safe to say that Auburn and Georgia Tech look better than they were in 2024. A lot can happen in a couple of weeks, but keep an eye out for these two teams. Their matchups against Georgia could make for a better game than experts might think at the moment.
