There was one big game that Georgia football fans were able to take in while they waited to see who their opponent in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff would be. Former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck and the Miami Hurricanes traveled to Texas A&M to take on the Aggies in the first round of the playoff.

Miami's matchup with A&M was a classic defensive battle. Both teams struggled to move the ball all game, but a late Miami drive was capped off with a touchdown which led to a 10-3 win for Miami.

This victory sends Miami into the quarterfinals where they will play Ohio State. But more importantly this win means that Georgia is that much closer to playing Beck and Miami in the playoff.

Georgia is one step closer to facing Carson Beck in the CFP

There are a lot of pros and cons surrounding Miami beating Texas A&M and advancing in the playoff. The last thing anyone at Georgia wants to see is Beck and Miami win a National Championship, so the sooner they lose the better. But Miami is in the same half of the bracket as Georgia, so a matchup against Beck is something that would be hard to pass up.

Miami's win over Texas A&M got that matchup one step closer to actually occurring.

Georgia will learn later tonight if their quarterfinal opponent will be Ole Miss or Tulane. If they win that game and Miami beats Ohio State then UGA will get to play Beck and the Hurricanes in the semifinals with a trip to the National Championship on the line.

Georgia and Miami both winning is far from a guarantee. The Bulldogs will be predicted to win no matter who their opponent is, but Ohio State will be favored over Miami. But it's impossible to ignore the possibility of this matchup with Beck because it is close to actually occurring.

Georgia however can't afford to get wrapped up thinking about that. They need to focus on winning their quarterfinal matchup first, and if Beck and Miami happen to be waiting for them in the semifinals then so be it.
