For the first time in over a decade, the Kansas City Chiefs missed the NFL Playoffs in 2025. Just a little over a month before the NFL Draft, the Chiefs proved to the world that they are willing to make changes despite recent Super Bowls.

The Chiefs recently released starting offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, saving roughly $20 million in cap space. Though Jaylon Moore would be next up on the depth chart, could Monroe Freeling be the answer the Chiefs are looking for?

Monroe Freeling's Combine Performance could send him to Kansas City

Even though players that are projected to go high in the draft tend to skip the combine, Georgia Bulldogs star prospect Freeling stepped up and proved why it can be beneficial to participate. Freeling had an impressive combine, showcasing a 4.93 40-yard dash and a 1.71-second split, good for 5th and 2nd among offensive linemen respectfully.

Freeling also finished top 5 in broad and long jump. More shockingly, Freeling became the first player in NFL combine history to be at least 6-foot-7, 315-pounds and post a sub-5.00 40-yard dash, a vertical jump over 30 inches and a broad jump over nine feet.

Freeling proved with his combine performance he is one of, if not the, most athletic offensive lineman in the draft. That ability along with his 6'7", 315-pound frame could make him jump dramatically in the draft. To further push the narrative that he could be going early, it is worth noting that Kansas City made the move to cut Jawaan Taylor one day after these results were posted.

Kansas City has arguably the best quarterback in the league in Patrick Mahomes. It is obvious to anybody that the organization's top priority should be to protect the star. With Mahomes getting injured in 2025, Andy Reid could very well be pushing heavily for a change on the offensive line. After a record-breaking combine performance, it should not be a stretch to say the Chiefs are looking to take Freeling with the ninth overall pick.
