Georgia's new QB target fell straight into their laps

Georgia would be wise to take a chance on a quarterback who just decommitted from an SEC program.

It is still early in the 2027 recruiting cycle, but Georgia has gotten off to a fantastic start. They are however still missing a commit from a quarterback which is one of the most important positions to recruit well every cycle.

Georgia doesn't have too many public targets at quarterback so far in the 2027 class, but a new in-state QB just fell into their laps on Monday. Now it's just a question of if Georgia will be interested in pursuing this new opportunity or not.

Georgia was gifted a new QB to recruit

DJ Hunter is a three-star quarterback from Buford, GA. According to the 247Sports composite rankings he is the No. 597 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 41 overall QB in the 2027 class and the No. 67 player from the state of Georgia.

Hunter had been committed to Kentucky, but on Monday he decided to decommit from the Wildcats. This was an interesting decision from him since he only has three scholarship offers, but he clearly felt that Kentucky was not the right place for him.

Ole Miss and South Florida are the two other schools that have offered Hunter, Georgia however could change that if they choose to start targeting him.

It's hard to say what quarterbacks Georgia should recruit in the 2027 class. The Bulldogs already have the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 class committed to them, so it's unlikely that another elite QB would want to come to Georgia right before him. So an in-state recruit like Hunter could be the next best option.

At this point Georgia has not recruited Hunter, but all it takes is a scholarship offer from Kirby Smart and his staff. And if that happens it's hard to imagine a world where that doesn't immediately make Georgia Hunter's No. 1 school.
