Georgia football arguably has the greatest NFL Draft record to their name. That record was set in 2022 when Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs had a record 15 players drafted. No team has ever had that many players drafted in the same year, but this record is in serious jeopardy this year.
There are a few teams that could have a lot of players drafted this year, but with the draft still over two months away it is a little difficult even for the experts to project. But one way to get an idea as to how many players could be drafted from a school is by looking to see how many players were invited to the NFL Combine later this month.
Georgia had the second most players invited to the Combine with 14, a feat that Texas also accomplished this year as well. But there is one school with more, and that is the National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes.
Ohio State could challenge Georgia’s NFL Draft record
Ohio State leads the country this year with 15 players invited to the Combine. That means that NFL organizations have serious interest in drafting 15 Buckeyes later this spring, and if that happens then Ohio State would tie Georgia’s record set in 2022.
Just because a player is headed to the Combine does not mean they will be drafted. Take Michigan last season who had 18 players at the 2024 NFL Combine but only ended up with 13 players drafted. That however might not be the case with Ohio State this year as all 15 players are currently projected to be picked within the first five rounds, so it would be a little surprising if someone went undrafted.
Another thing to consider is that a Buckeye not at the Combine could still be drafted as well. When Georgia set the record with 15 picks in 2022, they actually only had 12 players invited to the Combine. So this shows that anything is possible.
So while Georgia fans will likely be focused on UGA’s players only, Ohio State’s performance at this year’s draft is something to monitor as well in hopes that they don’t break or even tie Georgia’s record.
